The Latin “Campus Ignis” means fire field. As the name suggests, its region has the particularity of being able to store the heat of the day and then return it during the night. The sandy porous rock soil is key to regulating water supply to the vines by immediately absorbing excess water and retaining it for use in the driest periods. Vines growing in tuffeau-rich soils rarely suffer from excess water stress but also benefit from dry, free-draining soils.
